History of the erection of the statue:
When one of the sons of the deceased Countess Franziska was travelling to Paris in 1861, he received the unexpected and shocking news on the Rhine that his mother was seriously ill back home. Grief-stricken and worried, he vowed to have a statue erected to the "Comforter of the Afflicted" if his mother recovered. The son's prayer was answered: the sick woman recovered and lived for another 18 years. After returning home, the young count was delighted to have the magnificent "Consolatrix afflictorum" with the German inscription: "Tröste die Herzen, lind're die Schmerzen, hilf uns, hilf uns, Maria!" erected in this special place.
