The building has a unique architecture, it is divided into a loud and a quiet side. The hall, wind instruments, percussion and pianos are housed on the "loud" side, while the strings, pluckers, pre-school courses and administration are in the "quiet" wing. The sound insulation to the outside is remarkable. You can see trains and trucks passing by and not hear them.
The square in front of the new music school is an event area for market and town festivals and a place for citizens and visitors to linger. Two sculptures, a trombonist and a dancer, created by sculptor Susanne Wehland and Prof. Joachim Schmettau, represent the different aspects of music, loud and quiet.
