Unique museum in the world
The Museum of Childhood and Youth Works by Important Artists in Halle houses works by artists such as August Macke, Felix Klee and Pablo Picasso and is located in the oldest house in the city of Halle, a half-timbered house dating back to 1246, which has been painstakingly and lovingly restored.
The museum is located in the oldest house in the city of Halle (Westphalia) The building on Kirchplatz, built around 1246, looks back on an eventful history. It housed a monastery, served as a church for a time and was used as a prison. The museum was founded in May 1987 on the initiative of painter Ursula Blaschke after the building had been completely renovated by a group of craftswomen.
The old building structures were deliberately preserved during the renovation. This museum, the only one of its kind in the world, displays childhood and youthful works by important artists, including Conrad Felixmüller, Paul and Felix Klee, August Macke, Friedrich Karl Gotsch, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner and Pablo Picasso, to name but a few. In special exhibitions, the museum also shows the development of artists from the earliest to the latest work, e.g. by Oskar Kokoschka or Otto Modersohn. This museum offers great art enjoyment for young and old alike.
"A place full of power and depth, humor and joy" - according to a visitor's entry in the guest book. The museum offers projects for teachers, training courses and pupils.Good to know
