The citizens of Hall probably chose the name "Kaffeemühle" (coffee mill) for the pavilion for two reasons. On the one hand, the shape of the building is unmistakably similar to a small coffee mill, and on the other, the gardener's house was for a time the taproom for the Sunday coffee of the citizens of Hall, naturally associated with an ascent to the "coffee mill". From here, 34 church towers could be distinguished, with the towers of Münster and Hamm being the most distant. The distant mountains of Kassel can also be seen in good conditions.
The builder Hermann Hagedorn once called the "Kaffeemühle" his "pleasure pavilion", with which he unmistakably expressed his attachment to the sandstone building. He also described the mill and its surroundings as an "oasis of peace".
