Heinberg

Nature discovery trail
Lean grassland, rock bands in a former excavation below the Heinturm, serpentine path with short but steep inclines and sparse pine forest.

The Heinberg is a 258.6 m high elevation near the Diemel. It is located between Warburg and its district of Ossendorf in the North Rhine-Westphalian district of Höxter. The Hein Tower (Wartturm) stands on the hill. A significant part of the Battle of Warburg took place on the hill in 1760.

A good 7,000 years ago, people began clearing the forest in the Warbuger Börde in order to cultivate the fertile soil. The Börde is one of the oldest cultivated landscapes in Central Europe. Over the past millennia, the landscape has been completely transformed to meet the demands of man. There are hardly any remnants of the natural landscape here, but there is evidence of old forms of farming. These can be found mainly on the outskirts of the Börde and in the Diemel Valley, in the form of semi-arid grasslands, colorful flowering meadows and orchards and shallow limestone shards. Steep incline on the serpentine path up to the Heinberg. The GPS circular hiking trail on the Heinberg is recommended.
