The X 3 bears witness to the varied landscape of East Westphalia-Lippe.
The trail begins in the Warburger Börde, crosses the densely wooded southern Eggegebirge mountains, then leads across the Paderborn limestone plateau, the largest karst landscape in North Rhine-Westphalia, touches the lowlands of the Lippe and crosses the heathland of the Senne.

The Diemel-Ems Trail will fascinate hikers interested in natural history and geography in particular. Uniquely distinctive landscapes such as the karst landscape with its rich wealth of forms and the fascinating Senneland landscape with the sources of the Ems are striking attractions.
