Holsterburg

Archaeological site
Holsterburg Castle, also known as Holthusen, is a ruined lowland castle built in 1191 and destroyed in 1294 to the south-east of Warburg in North Rhine-Westphalia. Restored by the LWL.
The octagonal castle is the only one of its kind in Westphalia. Comparable but somewhat later octagonal ring structures were Kilchberg Castle in Tübingen and the castles of Egisheim, Guebwiller and Wangen in Alsace; the famous Castel del Monte was only built a few decades later. The Landschaftsverband Westfalen-Lippe (LWL) and the town of Warburg have made the ruins accessible to the public and integrated them into the town's tourism concept.
