Most of the waters in the clay pits are shallow. In very dry summers, there is therefore a risk that they will dry up. However, this does not apply to the pond located here, which is over two meters deep in the middle.
The pond has quite steep banks, so that only a narrow fringe of reeds can develop. The common frogspoon, an amphibious plant that occurs both in the marsh and in shallow water, is quite conspicuous. The white flowers are pollinated in particular by the mostly yellow-black colored hoverflies, whose larvae develop in the water. The fruits have a floating tissue and are spread by the water or by waterfowl.
A striking feature is the sea pot with its yellow flowers and leaves that float on the water. Its fruits are also buoyant and are spread from body of water to body of water by the water or by clinging to waterfowl. However, this plant is not native to our region - its natural occurrence is limited to the lower reaches of large rivers or the Upper Rhine Plain.
