Ev. St. Jacobi Kirche in Werther (Westf.)

Church

The church - a historic building - is located directly in Werther's historic city center.

The Protestant-Lutheran St. Jakobi Church in Werther (Westphalia) is centrally located in the city center on Alte Bielefelder Straße. Between the 9th and 11th centuries, a single-nave hall church made of quarry stone was built on the same site after the wooden church was demolished. The church tower was built in the 12th century with subsequent extensions to the nave (in the 14th century) and transept (1876/77).

Today, you can see a Gothic hall church with a tower, transept and apse with side chapels. Ribbed vaults in the four-bay nave, transept and chapels; groined vaults on the first floor of the tower and in the chapels.
