The four-storey, neo-Romanesque building (also known as the Körnermagazin by the people of Minden) was built in 1835 as part of the Minden fortress and covers an area of 3,360 square metres.
The attic is equipped with a bombardment beam ceiling and a snow floor.
The exterior walls are faced with Porta sandstone.
Together with the neighbouring army bakery, the building served to ensure that the Prussian army had enough supplies within the fortress walls. In the final days of the Second World War, the building was set on fire by German troops as they were clearing the left bank of the Weser.
The provisions storehouse was completely burnt out and remained a ruin for 30 years before it was renovated and has since housed a school for second-chance education, the Weser-Kolleg.
