The history
The Wallücke Railway would never have existed without the ore deposits in the Wiehengebirge. But passenger and freight transport also helped shape the so-called "Wallücker-Willem". In 1891, the Georgs-Marien-Bergwerks- und Hütten-Verein (GMBHV) acquired the ore deposit to the east of the Wallücke in Hüllhorst. The transportation of the ore from Hüllhorst via Löhne to Georgsmarienhütte initially posed problems. The districts of Lübbecke and Herford agreed with the GMBHV on a public route from Kirchlengern via Obernbeck, Löhne, Haistern, Tengern and Schnathorst to Wallücke. Special passenger carriages, goods wagons and ore wagons for the Wallückerbahn ran on the line. In September 1897, the time had finally come. The Wallücke Railway was opened and operated until it was closed in 1937. It was replaced by the small railroad of the then districts of Herford Lübbecke and Minden.
