Burg Herstelle

Fortress/Castle
The landmark of Herstelle is its castle, which was first mentioned in 1292 and towers high above the Weser. Many fairy tales by the Brothers Grimm, who often stayed in the castle, were written here. An original wall sketch by Ludwig Emil Grimm in the castle's great hall still bears witness to this today.
The village and castle were burned down both in 1465 and during the Thirty Years' War. The present building, which is privately owned, dates back to 1832 - the neo-Gothic, stone-faced new main building and the crenellated round tower - and 1798 - the older, plastered official building with mansard roof  -. For many decades, the castle served scholars, poets and artists as a center for literary circles and meetings. Well-known personalities such as Wilhelm and Ludwig Grimm, who were friends of the lady of the castle and her daughter Amalie, and Annette von Droste-Hülshoff, a niece of the lady of the castle, were frequent guests here.
For some years now, this tradition has been revived by offering seminars and workshops in the fields of art, culture and health as well as concerts and readings. The castle park can be visited on Wednesdays from 9.00 am to 1.30 pm.
Herstelle Castle is a branch of the Beverungen registry office and has been offering civil wedding ceremonies in a stylish setting since 2016. The historic hall allows for ceremonies with up to 40 guests. Afterwards, the conservatory invites you to a champagne reception before the park with its old trees provides the ideal backdrop for great wedding photos. Free weddings and open-air weddings in the castle park are also possible.
All information about Herstelle Castle, the events and arrangements relating to weddings can be found on the homepage.
