The 310-hectare area around the Obersee lake and the lower Johannisbachtal valley is one of Bielefeld's most important and popular recreational areas. The Obersee, the city's largest body of water at 15 hectares, is open all year round. Water, walking paths, restaurants, mini golf, playgrounds and many events guarantee a high recreational value

East of the railroad viaduct, the Johannisbach valley is an extensive, open cultural landscape with a meandering stream and large areas of pastureland at the bottom of the valley and arable farming on the slopes. From the walking paths around the Johannisbach floodplain and the Jerrendorf landscape park, you can enjoy beautiful views over the agricultural valley, the Teutoburg Forest and the two old farms Meyer zu Jerrendorf and Wehmeyer.

The juxtaposition of a wide range of leisure activities and nature experiences as well as attractive footpaths, cycle paths and bridle paths make the area a varied recreational area, especially for families.
