Bad Hermannsborn - from spring to health resort

"Born" is an old name for spring and the history of Bad Hermannsborn begins with a spring. In 1858, the merchant Gustav Thieme from Dortmund acquired the rights to the spring in Bornwiese and the spring at Rothen Berge in Pömbsen. He successfully sold the spring water as "Sprudel". The Commandit-Gesellschaft Hermannsborner Verein ran the business until it was recognized as a public limited company. Thieme was director for over 50 years. He then sold the company to the landowner Hermann Böckmann, who ran the company without success. Due to the First World War and the subsequent economic crisis, the sale of sparkling water was almost impossible. The Böckmann family gave up in 1924 and the Barmer Ersatzkasse took over the then Bad Hermannsborn GmbH in order to operate a spa and recreation facility here. Today, the Park Klinik Bad Hermannsborn is one of four rehabilitation clinics run by the Graf von Oeynhausen-Sierstorpff group of companies.
