They are already the talk of the town on set-up day and attract everyone's attention: the popular ALLTAGSMENSCHEN in Wiedenbrück! Every year from April to mid-September, around 90 sculptures invite you to stroll through the old town and the grounds of Flora-Westfalica Park.
The sculptures by Christel and Laura Lechner surprise on chairs and benches, meet on sidewalks and in the pedestrian zone, come together in prominent squares, lie relaxed in deckchairs or meet for a coffee klatch. No matter how and where: they always put a smile on the faces of their viewers.
66 life-size concrete sculptures invite you to take a fresh look at everyday life. Five of the 22 installations are located in the exact same places where they were on display at the very first exhibition in Wiedenbrück in 2006. The remaining sculptures have been repositioned and open up fresh perspectives at previously unused locations in the old town - on urban life, interaction and the role of art in public space.
The sculptures show loving snapshots of life, are approachable, open and sometimes surprising. They invite you to look at them, walk around them or even touch them. Anyone who wants to can become part of the scene themselves - for a brief moment or a lasting impression.
"Wiedenbrück is a special place for us - an extraordinary journey began here almost 20 years ago. It's touching to see how openly people meet everyday people even after all these years and the special connections that develop." (Laura Lechner)
The Everyday People have been created by ceramicist Christel Lechner since 1996. Since 2017, her daughter Laura Lechner has continued the artistic direction of the studio and has since shaped the work with her own visual language.
All of the figures on display are the property of the Burckhard Kramer Foundation, which we have to thank for the fact that the Everyday People can be experienced again in Wiedenbrück in 2025."
The locations are only available online in 2025: https://www.burckhard-kramer-stiftung.de/alltagsmenschen/
