Abbey stele

The abbey stele, a bronze tree, is a reminder of the imperial abbey's charitable work.
Seven intertwined strands of roots open up to form a crown. The six works of mercy from the Gospel of Matthew appear in it: feeding the hungry, watering the thirsty, clothing the naked, sheltering strangers, caring for the sick and looking after prisoners. An additional scene refers to another task: Christian teaching. The stele was erected on the occasion of the 1200th anniversary of the monastery in 1989.
