Did you want to be a train driver when you were a child and travel through the countryside on a puffing steam engine? If that never happened, you can cherish this dream once again around Altenbeken. And where else could a hike through railroad history begin than with a historic steam locomotive? Or end more beautifully in the evening, when the gleaming black Class 044 freight steam locomotive from 1941 is illuminated?
Be close to nature and still meet the highest standards - this is exactly what the Viadukt hiking trail offers. On soft meadow paths and natural trails, peppered with wonderful views, you can combine unforgettable landscapes with vibrant nature, culture and history.
By the way: the viaduct hiking trail is clearly signposted in both directions with no gaps. So you can decide which way round you want to walk and the hike guarantees a unique experience on every section.
In addition, there is a specially created punch card that can be "validated" at five stations along the trail. An attractive certificate awaits those who complete the hike. And farm cafés or the beer garden of a former monastery invite you to take a break along the way.

The starting point of the "Viaduct Hiking Trail" is the parking lot in front of the Eggemuseum, opposite the class 044 museum locomotive.
With the museum behind you, cross the main road, turn left along the renaturalized Mühlenbach stream and follow the steps to the railroad underpass. Then turn left to the viewing platform at the viaduct (great photo location).

Continue left down Ahornstraße to the Bollerbornquelle spring. Via a forest path to Eggering, along the residential buildings to Driburger Grund (leisure facility) - it is worth taking a detour about 1 km away to the idyllic Max-und-Moritz spring -, past the shooting range and along the forest path along the railroad line to Hossengrund.
From there, follow the A2, over the Reelsberg to the pond "Am Spring", through the road tunnel (B64) and continue left to the edge of the forest. Then turn right along a forest path to Heinrich-Mertens-Platz. From here, turn right to the old Buke railroad station.
Cross the railroad line and reach the L 828 country road in the direction of Altenbeken. Follow this road for approx. 100 meters, turning left at a residential building to the Krukenwiesen, cross the bridge to Eichborn and continue left to the Mariengrotte grotto with wayside shrine. From here, continue along Buker Dorfstraße, past the Richts Deele farm café. After 200 m, turn right towards Buker Feldmark (Rühenfeld).
From there, turn left to the crossroads (Flachenfeld), turn left here and after 200 m turn right onto a farm track to above the shooting range. Past the fence to the Dunetal inn.
Through the beautiful Dunetal valley you reach the small viaduct, slightly uphill on the right, it leads into the Schlonegrund path.
