Many cyclists describe the Alme Cycle Path in the Paderborn region as one of the most beautiful cycle routes in North Rhine-Westphalia. The "Alme Cycle Path" covers a distance of approx. 70 km from Brilon in the Sauerland region along the River Alme to the old imperial and episcopal city of Paderborn.

You will encounter many cultural and historical sights along the route through the beautiful Alme valley and its villages and towns. You start at the historic town hall of the old Hanseatic town of Brilon. The rest of the route takes you to Büren with its baroque Jesuit church and college. A little later, the only triangular castle in Germany, Wewelsburg Castle, will cast a mystical spell over you.

Before you reach your destination, the impressive Weser Renaissance castle of Neuhaus, cycle past the old railroad bridge in Salzkotten, the historic Mallinckrodthof or take a detour into the city centre of the old episcopal city of Paderborn. The Alme cycle path is continuously marked with blue signs with the inscription "Alme-Radweg" from the source to the estuary.

Directions

The starting point of the cycle tour is at the town hall in the center of the old Hanseatic town of Brilon. From here, it is around seven kilometers to the Alme district, which is also the only long uphill section of the entire tour. Here, as the name suggests, you will find the sources of the river.

After Brilon-Alme, the cycle path runs along the country road for around three kilometers before changing to a charming forest path to the left of the river at the "Multhäupter Hammer".

Past the Büren districts of Ringelstein and Harth and through Siddinghausen and Weine, the route leads to Büren with its imposing Jesuit church.

After the villages of Brenken and Ahden, you reach Wewelsburg with its imposing triangular castle on a mountain spur high above the Almetal valley.

The route leads via Niederntudorf and Alfen and Wewer into the city of Paderborn. Now it is only a few meters to the baroque garden of Neuhaus Castle and the mouth of the Alme into the Lippe, the end point of the Alme cycle path.
