Royal Classical Ballet
Classical ballet - what do you think of first? Nine times out of ten, the image that springs to mind is of a dainty dancer in a shimmering white tutu, her face framed by white feathers. Then there is a noble prince who falls madly in love with the dream creature ... Unknowing from where, and yet the same image from Swan Lake is repeated again and again. This one performance embodies what for many is classical ballet - then as now.
Over 100 years of unchallenged popularity with international audiences make Swan Lake one of the most popular works in the classical ballet repertoire! An outstanding masterpiece of its genre. You can become addicted to Swan Lake. "If you don't know Swan Lake, you can't understand ballet in the first place," say ballet critics.
"It is a love of which no one need be ashamed, for nowhere else has classical ballet reached such artistic perfection as in this neo-romantic choreography by Lev Ivanov." (Horst Koegler)
It applies to ballet in general and to Swan Lake in particular: Love and longing, loneliness and jealousy, anger, pain and happiness - all the great emotions can be portrayed with body language as fervently and oversized as one would never be able to do with the spoken word. "If I could express what I feel with words, I wouldn't need to dance." This is how the famous Margot Fonteyn summed it up in a few words.
In the finest traditional ballet language, the ballet tells the story of Prince Siegfried, Princess Odette and the wizard Redbeard, of longing, loneliness, jealousy, anger, pain, happiness and, above all, the victory of love over evil.
The story of the swan princess Odette is known all over the world:
A young prince's son is to marry in order to preserve the dynasty. Unfortunately, Prince Siegfried does not fall in love with one of the intended young ladies, but with an enchanting foreign girl to whom he swears eternal fidelity. However, the beautiful Odette is under an evil spell and is only allowed to take on human form for a few hours at night. The magician Redbeard then has his own daughter appear in the form of Odette at a lavish party in the castle in order to deceive the prince. The deluded prince unintentionally breaks his promise of loyalty. When he realizes this, he asks for forgiveness, which is granted. In the end, he even defeats the evil sorcerer himself, so that the triumph of love is complete.
For young and old alike, it is a welcome opportunity to experience the unique perfection of ballet and effortlessly find access to the magical world of ballet.
With their floating lightness and elegance, the ballet dancers make you forget the precise work and athletic rigor behind the performance. Royal Classical Ballet transports you to a world of weightlessness and poetry with the precise flap of its wings.
