Add to that a noble prince who falls madly in love with this dreamlike creature… We don’t know where it comes from, yet it’s always the same image from *Swan Lake*. Using the most refined traditional ballet language, the ballet tells the story of Prince Siegfried, Princess Odette, and the sorcerer Rothbart—a tale of longing, loneliness, jealousy, anger, pain, happiness, and, above all, the triumph of love over evil.

The story of the Swan Princess Odette is known throughout the world:

A young prince is to marry in order to preserve the dynasty. Unfortunately, Prince Siegfried does not fall in love with any of the young ladies chosen for him, but rather with an enchanting stranger to whom he swears eternal fidelity. The beautiful Odette, however, is under an evil spell and may only take human form for a few hours each night. The sorcerer Rothbart then has his own daughter appear in Odette’s guise at a lavish ball in the castle to deceive the prince. The deluded prince unwittingly breaks his vow of fidelity. When he realizes this, he begs for forgiveness, which is granted to him. In the end, he even defeats the evil sorcerer himself, making the triumph of love complete.
