KTG Trio (Kordes/Tetzlaff/Godejohann)

Oscar Peterson composed the "Easter Suite" in 1984 on behalf of the BBC. The result was a deeply touching jazz trio version of the Passion story, in which the subject was musically realized in the most subtle way. The composition itself contains a theological interpretation, as it places reconciliation and forgiveness programmatically at the center of the 9 short movements. A hitherto little-known but very enriching addition to the canon of traditional Passion music. The jazz trio Kordes-Tetzlaff-Godejohann has the great merit of having paved the way for Peterson's long-forgotten work to return to the podium after 22 years.

"Perfectly coordinated and sensitive trio playing, enormous sonority, fascinating playing on the grand piano," is the verdict of the renowned Jazzpodium. An extraordinary concert experience.

Performers: Jazz-Trio Kordes-Tetzlaff-Godejohann

Olaf Kordes

studied classical piano with Martin Hansen (Bielefeld, Osnabrück) and Jochen Kilian (FWH Essen) as well as jazz arranging.

His compositions and arrangements balance virtuosically on the border between classical music and jazz and have already been performed at numerous concerts and festivals. (Int. Bachwochen Thun (CH), Haller Bachtage, Wiblinger Bachtage, Schönberger Musiksommer, Bronnbacher Kultouren, Jazztage im Kloster Seeon, Festival "Jazz in der Kirche" etc.). His projects conceived for the jazz trio Kordes-Tetzlaff-Godejohann (transcription and reinterpretation of Oscar Peterson's Easter Suite, My heart belongs to, Salute to Bach - Bach and More, Luther/Bach/Blues/2017) have been realized in numerous concerts in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The CD recording of his arrangements and compositions as part of the project "heimlich, still und leise" was nominated for the German Record Critics' Award in 2017. Reinald Hanke (Neue Musikzeitung) praised the "singing, crystalline piano playing" and a "sense of form that is astonishing".

"Fascinating playing on the grand piano" was the verdict of the renowned Jazzpodium.

The new arrangement of Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue" for organ and jazz trio together with organist Jürgen Sonnentheil based on the organ transcription by Barry Jordan (Magdeburg Cathedral) is the latest project from the pen of the pianist, arranger and composer.
