The nucleus of the town of Bad Driburg is located here.
In the 13th century, the first church (demolished in 1894) and a regionally important market were built near a strategically important crossroads. Important axis
The Lange Straße is part of the Westphalian Hellweg. This over 5,000-year-old trade route stretched from the Rhine near Duisburg via Dortmund to the Weser crossing at Höxter/Corvey. From Paderborn onwards, it ran from Münster to Seesen/Lower Saxony (since 1949: federal highway B 64) through the middle of Bad Driburg as a long-distance road developed in modern times in the style of a "Chaussee", until the route finally bypassed the town in 1971. Today, the road is the main shopping street in the spa town and the backbone of the city center. In 2011, work began to extensively upgrade the Lange Straße in terms of urban development. This renovation will be completed by 2019. The aim is to give the street a contemporary design as a boulevard with new paving, new plazas, new furniture and a new avenue.

Mittlere Lange Straße - the new center
The main shopping street stretches from Konrad-Adenauer-Ring to Dringenberger Straße as a pedestrian zone and the
feeling of a new city center. The area was once known as the "Vorbadt" or "Neustadt". The "Am Hellweg" shopping center is the
result of extensive urban redevelopment in the 1970s.
