For 80 million years, the Externsteine, a 40-metre-high rock formation, have formed the great gateway in the Teutoburg Forest on the former imperial route between the Rhine and Oder. Horn received its town charter in 1248 and in 1767 the Lippe royal family founded today's historic mineral and mud spa Bad Meinberg. Conventional medicine meets naturopathy.
