The Schweicheln "mountain", which at 168 m is not that high, was the site of a hilltop settlement over 6000 years ago. Early man used the elevation of clay rock as protection against enemies. During the Second World War, the anti-aircraft position built there was often the target of attacks and bomb craters are still visible in the forest.
Today, the mountain with its varied forest is a popular hiking area. There are wonderful panoramic views over the Ravensberg hills in several places.
