Fortress/Castle

Haldem Castle: Former manor house, baroque building, now an LWL psychiatric hospital

The landscape park - a place to relax

To the east of the palace, there was once a landscape park covering around 3 hectares, which was almost completely destroyed during and after the Second World War. Today, a small wood, characterized by predominantly younger deciduous trees, with its paths and benches invites you to take relaxing walks.

Historical elements and special features

A few historical elements have been preserved, including old trees such as a lime tree and a copper beech as well as the large pond in the park. The hill-like elevation in the south-eastern area of the grounds is often regarded as a viewing or lime tree hill. In the areas close to the buildings, there are green spaces and sports facilities that meet the needs of the clinic.

A special initiative of the clinic is the nursery, where three employees and 30 patients tend the park grounds. Here, vegetables and plants are grown in greenhouses, seasonal plant decorations are produced and offered both for personal use and for sale.

Events - Experience the past and present

Haldem Castle offers various events that shed light on both historical and modern aspects of the building. These include guided tours of the historical part of the castle and the present-day clinic. Specialist events and public events are also held regularly.
