The listed manor complex with Weser Renaissance Haddenhausen Castle is located on the edge of the moorland of the Bastau lowlands
.Some very beautiful old trees have been preserved on the Gräfteninsel. There was never a garden or park at Haddenhausen Castle, but there was a kitchen garden of over 1 hectare within the outer walls.
Haddenhausen was first mentioned in 1033 as "Haddenhusun". In 1457 it is owned by the von Münchhausen family. The von dem Bussche family acquired the Haddenhausen estate in 1610 and had the moated castle built by master builder E. Wilkenings from 1613. Since 1708, the estate has been owned by the von dem Bussche-Hünnefeld'sches Stammlegat family foundation. Passing the chapel (presumably from the beginning of the 17th century), you enter the estate with various old farm buildings, which were erected from 1754 onwards. Cross the Gräftenbrücke bridge to reach the Renaissance archway with richly decorated ashlars and arch stones, from which a guard's head protrudes as a keystone. Typical Weser Renaissance elements can be found on the two-winged castle in the form of the gorge, the octagonal stair tower and many ornaments.
