Reelser Kreuz

Monument
The Reelser Kreuz is a historic wayside cross on the Bad Driburg arterial road in the direction of Reelsen. It is a regionally significant cultural and commemorative symbol and is also a striking landmark in the landscape.

On the Bad Driburg arterial road towards Reelsen, above the road breakthrough between Knochen and Rosenberg, stands the "Reelser Kreuz".

In the immediate vicinity of the "Reelser Kreuz" runs the Rundwanderweg "Sachsenring".
Hikers who take a detour across the road are rewarded with a bench, a beautiful poem and a direct view of the cross after a short climb.

The cross was donated by District Administrator Baron von Metternich in 1863. The Bad Driburg local history association had it restored in 2011. The body and base are made of sandstone.

The base bears the inscription:

Wanderer, we all' hienieden,
Gehen in die Irrere viel.
Führ uns Herr, die rechten Wege
Führ uns Herr, zum rechten Ziel!

The lines were written by Luise Klaholt, who was born in Bad Driburg in 1853 and went down in regional literary history with her pseudonym Therese Treu. Today, Luise Klaholt is honored by the naming of a street in Bad Driburg. She was laid to rest in the Westfriedhof cemetery in Bad Driburg. Her gravesite can still be visited today.
