The pilgrim's cross made of metal struts stands delicately on the Way of St James in an idyllic spot on the edge of the forest in Hainhausen. The 3.2 metre cross, which was erected on the initiative of the Bökendorf parish council in 2011, is made as a hollow body. Pilgrims and visitors can throw a stone into the cross and in this way symbolically entrust their petitions, wishes and thoughts, prayers or worries to the cross with hope. Hundreds of inscribed stones now cover the inner foundation slab. The pilgrim's stamp and an entry in the pilgrim's book are also very popular with pilgrims and hikers. The pilgrim cross in Hainhausen is located on the Höxter-Dortmund pilgrimage route, one of seven pilgrimage routes in Westphalia. Holy mass is usually celebrated at the pilgrim cross on the feast day of St James the Apostle (25 July).
