Monument
Altenbeken's history is closely linked to the railroad. It almost goes without saying that a particularly beautiful specimen found its place in the heart of the village.

On October 14, 1977, two DB tugs loaded a special freight: an 044 steam locomotive with tender. On this day, the "Queen of the Central Uplands" traveled by road to Altenbeken, where it found a worthy place opposite the Eggemuseum after extensive restoration. The freight train steam locomotive 044 389-5 was built in 1941 and weighs 128.5 tons with tender. A proud 22.60 meters long and 4.50 meters high, it is a focal point for many railroad enthusiasts from near and far when set up in its original condition.

Like the viaduct, it is bathed in "golden light" every evening and casts a spell over photo enthusiasts and camera crews alike.
