The Mittelland Canal: Germany's longest artificial waterway

With a length of 325 kilometers, the Mittelland Canal is the longest artificial waterway in Germany. It connects the Dortmund-Ems Canal in the west with the Weser, the Elbe and the Elbe-Havel Canal in the east. This important waterway plays a central role in German inland traffic and is used by numerous ships.

Cycling along the Mittelland Canal

Although there are no officially signposted cycle paths along the Mittelland Canal, cyclists can certainly use the route for excursions. A popular destination for cycle tourists is the waterway junction in Minden, where the Mittelland Canal meets the Weser.
