Across from the Huckenpuhl, below the Loretoberg in the Alme floodplains, stands the small St. Mark’s Chapel in Büren-Brenken. The brick chapel was built in 1861 by Adolph Pahls and his wife Anna Richter and dedicated to St. Mark the Evangelist. It remained in private ownership for generations before being donated to the Brenken Heritage and Tourism Association in 1999.
In 2000, the chapel underwent extensive renovation. Today, it serves as a small testament to rural cultural history and commemorates the town’s religious tradition. The grounds, which are open to the public, are located directly on the Alme Valley and make for an ideal stopover during a hike or bike ride.
