The statue of the Virgin Mary enthroned on a stone plinth at the "Star" was erected in 1882 by Carl von Droste-Hülshoff and his wife Pierrine to commemorate the apparition of the Virgin Mary in Lourdes. Mary is depicted as the Queen of Heaven, whose foot is crushing the snake - the symbol of evil.
