Marienkapelle bei Riesel

Church
The chapel above Riesel is a Marian chapel.
The chapel was donated by Mayor Johannes Crux from Brakel and his wife Eva Gertrud Becker from Dringenberg so that the Virgin Mary would be a "benevolent queen" and help them. A peculiar feature of this half-timbered chapel is that the cross beams do not run horizontally, but in a zigzag pattern and the walls appear like upward-striving gables. The altar is the jewel in the chapel's crown. It is made of alabaster in the Baroque style: with twisted columns, a floral and tendril thread.
