The Unitas Spring is the oldest spring in Salzkotten. Its brine was once used for salt production and channeled through wooden—and later lead—pipes to the salt works. Above the spring stands the fountain house, built in 1554, which is now a designated historic landmark. Above the entrance, you can see the old salt workers’ coat of arms and the motto “Unita durant.”
Rare halophytes such as sea aster, saltmarsh aster, salt rush, and salt trident have also been reintroduced on the Kütfelsen. The Kütfelsen and the well house are open to the public and are located right in the historic city center.
