The Kastanienwall is part of the historic ramparts that surround Lemgo’s Old Town like a green belt. The structure was once part of the medieval city fortifications and served to protect the city. The individual sections of the rampart were formerly named after the craft guilds responsible for their defense.
What once served as a defensive structure is now a green oasis right next to the historic old town. The ramparts invite visitors to take a stroll and linger, and are part of a loop trail around the city center. Along the way, visitors can discover historical sites, monuments, and various points of interest.
