The plans for the villa and its interior were drawn up by Hanover architect Christoph Hehl. The building, equipped with state-of-the-art living comfort, was designed in neo-Gothic style. Around the turn of the century, many residential buildings in Minden were built in this style. Only remnants of the important gardens remain. The name "Kaiservilla" goes back to a stay by Kaiser Wilhelm II on the occasion of a maneuver in 1889.
