The historic town center is not only the center of the seven districts, but also the historical heart of the town. Rietberg is characterized by its past as a former county residence and former state capital. The entire town center within the ramparts is a listed building. If you have the time, you can immerse yourself in the lives of people hundreds of years ago - often described and explained in the inscriptions on the ornate gables of the numerous half-timbered houses. The lovingly restored half-timbered buildings have also given Rietberg the nickname "town of beautiful gables". Examples of historical monuments and landmarks worth seeing that enrich the townscape include the historic town hall, the former Franciscan monastery, St. John's Chapel, the Catholic parish church of St. John the Baptist and many more.
