The original moated castle with manor house was built around the year 800 and was first mentioned in writing in 851. It is the oldest part of Rödinghausen and gave its name to the villages of Ostkilver and Westkilver. After the Franconian victory over the Saxons, Kilver House served as a royal court. The Franks administered the conquered territories from their royal courts. The present form of the manor house with its bridge, gateway and corner tower dates back to 1605. The monument is currently used as a farm and can only be viewed by visitors from the outside.
