Historic site
After the liberation of the POW camp, the survivors turned this mass grave cemetery into a place of remembrance. Today, it has become the park-like cemetery of honor, which, together with the Stalag 326 memorial in Stukenbrock-Senne, forms an unobtrusive but very important part of remembrance and commemoration for all generations.
In the immediate vicinity of the transit camp for prisoners of war from the Soviet Union, the main camp Stalag 326 VI K, a cemetery with mass graves was established during the Second World War. Up to 65,000 people - the exact numbers are still not known - are buried here.

On May 7, 1945, a group of former prisoners began construction work on a 10-metre-high obelisk, which was to serve as a memorial. They were also supported by German residents.

The survivors placed gravestones and planted trees, so that today the Soviet cemetery of honor has a park-like character and is a real place of reflection.
The Stalag Memorial offers very personal guided tours of the cemetery of honor. Information on public lectures and tours can be found in the SHS events calendar, but individual tours are also possible.
