The Senne is characterized by sandy soil that reaches up to 60 m deep. The typical landscape features heathland, moorland and forests.
The heathland once covered the entire Senne. Past larches, birches, beeches and pines, the trail takes you through various nature reserves with different vegetation. The Benteiche were created by clay excavation, which was needed for the production of roof tiles.
The path leads past the raised bog, where cotton grass nods to the hiker in summer. The view from the Sennerandweg / Lönspfad during a rest at the "Senneblick" refuge of the Augustdorf local history association leads south and southwest into the Senne ("Sinedi" = old heathland). In the north-east, the Lippe Senne extends as far as the former Prussian-Lippe border river "Menkhauser Bach", in the east it is closed off by the Fürstenallee between Kreuzkrug and Schlangen. In the distance is the "Mäuseturm", also known as the "Haustenbecker Turm", which is still the tallest building in the Senne.

From the Ruhr area and Kassel: A33, exit no. 23 Stukenbrock Senne, then take the L756 Paderborner Straße towards Augustdorf, in Stukenbrock at the second traffic circle turn right onto the L 758 Augustdorfer Straße and follow this for approx. 8 km to Dörenkrug, turn right into Gfm. -Rommel- Straße
From Hannover/ Bremen/ Berlin/ Hamburg: A2, keep right at junction 25 - Kreuz Bielefeld and follow the signs for the A33 towards Paderborn, take exit 22 Schloß Holte-Stukenbrock towards Detmold/Augustdorf, turn right onto L751 Oerlinghauser Straße, turn right onto L756 Bielefelder Straße, at the traffic circle take the second exit onto L758 Augustdorfer Straße, after 8 km turn right onto Gfm.-Rommel-Straße
