Dr. Trampel is the founder of the baths. The monument was erected in 1987 to mark the 250th anniversary of his birth. Dr. Trampel was a young, ambitious personal physician to Count Simon August, who was able to convince him that Meinberg's remedies were just as good as those in Pyrmont, which was already a spa of European standing at the time. Dr. Trampel developed into the manager of the new spa, which became Meinberg "Curort" in 1767; he erected the star in 1770, the rose in 1775, introduced spa music, regular spa services and built the first fountain temple on the present site. But he overshot the mark. One day, when the spa products were no longer sufficient, he "improved" the water with ordinary table salt. He became entangled in court intrigues and in 1793 fled across the border at night and in fog to Bad Pyrmont in Prussia, where he continued to work as a fountain doctor.
(The bust of Dr. Trampel is located in the historic spa gardens in front of the Hotel zum Stern.)
