The Roland column is a sign of market justice, i.e. a market column to which the market flag and market cross were attached during market days.

It also served as a pillory with a neck iron.

Until 1896, the Roland Column stood in various locations on the town hall square.

The column, carved from stone in Gothic style, dates back to the 14th century in terms of art history, has a total height of 5.45 metres up to the top of the flag and a diameter of 0.49 metres. It probably served as an expression of the town's market rights and was later also used as a pillory. The name "Roland Column" is probably borrowed from comparable examples in other cities (Bremen!).
