Built in 2008, the "cultura", a circular theater building that seats around 800 spectators and served as a temporary venue for the Deutsche Oper am Rhein (Düsseldorf) until it was purchased by the town of Rietberg in 2007, is a modern and rustic replica of Shakespeare's Globe Theatre, which was built on the south bank of the Thames in London in 1598. The special feature: Every visitor sits in the three tiers no more than 14 m from the edge of the stage, which creates an incredible atmosphere at events. This unusual ambience is already highly praised in artistic circles.
The wide-ranging programme of events is organized by the "kulturig e.V." association, which brings highlights from all areas to the Emsstadt and thus attracts more and more audiences from all over East Westphalia and beyond. The cultural spectrum ranges from rock, jazz and folk to comedy, cabaret, literature and artistry. The kulturig association has mastered this arc in an excellent way.
