A monument to craftsmanship: the village smithy of Holzhausen II
The village smithy, which was built in 1747, impresses with its fully preserved half-timbering with brickwork and the dated inscription on the gable of the house. In 1989, the building was placed under a preservation order and converted into a lovingly designed museum, which today bears witness to the old craft traditions of the region.
In the interior of the smithy, you can admire the well-preserved tools and equipment that blacksmiths once used for their work. From anvils and horseshoes to complicated tools, the variety is impressive and gives a vivid impression of how work was done back then.
Living tradition: action days and demonstrations
Every year, the Heimatverein Holzhausen II organizes special action days where the old art of blacksmithing and the traditional craft of rope-making are demonstrated. The highlights are the two open days, when visitors can experience how sparks fly and iron is worked. The village smithy comes to life here at the hands of experienced craftsmen - an impressive display of old skills.
The "Barn of Crafts": A place for explorers and craft lovers
Next to the village smithy is the "Barn of Crafts" called "Büntmaas", another testament to traditional building and craftsmanship. It is also made of half-timbering and today serves as an additional room to showcase the variety of crafts and trades. Visitors can admire handmade works and small exhibitions that vividly convey the history and importance of craftsmanship for rural life in the past.
