The Old Railway is an attempt to run a railroad line between Kassel and Paderborn through the Egge. However, water ingress and other geological features caused construction work to be halted. A new route was therefore laid, which crossed the Egge without a tunnel.
Today, two deep gorges bear witness to this disaster and have become valuable biotopes.

The "Alte Eisenbahn" can only be reached on foot. There is a parking lot for hikers on the L763 between Lichtenau-Kleinenberg and Willebadessen. From there, follow the "Bühlheimer Weg" in a westerly direction.
