The circular route begins and ends in the Espelkamp district of Frotheim. On quiet side roads, past beautiful half-timbered farmhouses, the route leads to the large peat bog, where you can learn all there is to know about the bog on educational trails. The first mill on the route is in Eickhorst, where regular baking days are held and there is an opportunity to visit the mill on these days. The route continues along the Mittelland Canal to the windmill in Hille, where you can take a short break. The route continues to the large stone, a relic from the last ice age, and to the wedding mill in Tonnenheide. The mill is no longer in use and is now used for weddings. In Schmalge, you can take a break in the beer garden of an inn. Hidden away in the nature reserve of the state forest is a former bunker, which now serves as a shelter for bats. Back in Frotheim, the trail leads past the 200-year-old Klus. Finally, you can end the day in an inn in the center of Frotheim.

Some of the mills can be visited not only from the outside and are in operation on selected "grinding and baking days". The dates can be found at Mühlenkreis.
