The 14 km long Discovery Trail has two great viewpoints to offer: Ravensberg Castle and the Luisenturm tower. Another attraction is the ErdZeitCenter in the Kultur- und Heimathaus, where geological treasures from Borgholzhausen can be admired. The circular hiking trail is marked from both sides.

The Discovery Trail is a wonderful way to combine and experience the city's sights. The circular hiking trail is marked from both sides.

High up on the ridge of the Teutoburg Forest, a mighty tower rises up behind dense trees. Ravensberg Castle is one of the mightiest fortified castles in northern Germany. From the observation tower, visitors have an unmistakable view over the countryside. Equally impressive is the well house with its functioning old winding wheel and fully illuminated castle well. It is also worth taking a walk around the castle grounds, where you can marvel at the remains of the castle walls and the castle garden.

A wooden observation tower was erected on the Johannisegge (291 m) in 1893 in memory of Luise of Prussia. Today, the now fourth Luise Tower, which was inaugurated in 1991 at a height of 21 meters, offers a view over the entire city of Borgholzhausen. In good weather, the view extends as far as Porta Westfalica in the north-east and far into the Münsterland region to the south-west.

The ErdZeitCenter is also one of the sights. It is located in the Kultur- und Heimathaus, Freistraße 25. Two exhibition areas make it a worthwhile destination - the ErdZeitMuseum located inside the Heimathaus and the GeoGarten behind it, which is open to the public at all times. Earth-historical treasures from Borgholzhausen can be admired in the museum. Clear highlights are the world's largest collection of giant ammonites and the 240-million-year-old dinosaur tracks. Rocks and plants from the region are presented in the geological garden.
