Pfad der Geschichte
On the traces of history: “Path of History” makes Bäckerstraße tangible
Minden. Those who stroll through Bäckerstraße can now not only shop and stroll, but also dive into the history of the Minden city center. The new “Path of History” makes the history of the street visible. A total of 14 shops and business houses are participating at the start, from Wesertor up to Scharn.
The project emerged as a community initiative of the municipal city center management, the Minden Museum, and the business owners in Bäckerstraße. The property owners also supported the project. Together, the participants have compiled historical information about the individual business houses, making a piece of Minden's city history accessible.
At each participating business, an information board informs about the history of the respective house. Questions such as: Where did it all begin? What business used to be found there? And perhaps some may remember which store was there in their own childhood. A QR code on the information boards allows for additional detailed information and historical images to be accessed. This way, those interested can dive even deeper into the history of the individual houses.
Mayor Peter Kock said: “Bäckerstraße has many stories to tell. The ‘Path of History’ makes them visible and invites one to discover the city center from a somewhat different perspective. Thus, city history becomes tangible where it actually took place, right in the middle of daily life.”
