One day, the famous composer Johann Sebastian Bach was asked to compose a simple piece. His music starts off easy, but becomes increasingly complicated. When the client complained that it was impossible to play this piece, Bach replied, “Just practice diligently! After all, you have ten fingers—just like me.” How could Bach possibly fail to realize that not every musician is as skilled at playing as he is!

Recorders, viols, and the harpsichord—typical instruments of the Baroque era—fill the air with their sound. And some songs and dances invite the audience to join in, to become part of life around 1700.
