Amazing! - The History and Fantasies of Artificial Intelligence

  • Lecture/reading
Centuries ago, there were already notions of creating a technical component that resembled humans or was even superior to them. Thus, the idea of thinking machines and artificial beings took shape long before the present day.

Dr. Matin Schmitt from the Department of History at the University of Paderborn and Sean Quägwer from the AI Ethics Research Group at the University of Osnabrück will take the audience on a journey through the history of these ideas during a panel discussion on Tuesday, November 3, at 7:00 p.m. at the Heinz Nixdorf MuseumsForum.

Drawing on ancient myths, technical visions, and fantasies of the future, they will examine how concepts of artificial intelligence emerged and which ideas continue to shape our thinking about AI to this day.

What hopes and expectations are associated with AI? And what happens when you ask AI itself how it envisions the future?

The panel discussion is a collaboration between the Heinz Nixdorf MuseumsForum and the Evangelical Academy Villigst at the Institute for Church and Society.
